Happy Brew Monday!
Hi there. I’m Kath, The Word Lady – freelance copywriter and perpetual tea drinker. This makes me a tea expert. Go on, ask me anything:
☕️ Best everyday tea? Yorkshire Tea
🌿 Best herbal tea? Not an easy question because this is so dependent on the vibe of the moment, but if you’re after recommendations, Twinings camomile and honey is delicious
🍵 Best authentic ‘I’m drinking this the ceremonial way’ tea: loose leaf sencha tea (from a handle-less teacup*) – this Sainsbury's Sencha Rose Green Loose Leaf Tea is divine
🍂 Tea you need to try if you haven’t already: chai latte
🧋 Freakiest tea: bubble tea (WTAF?!)
*Matcha is meant to be the tea used in ceremonial tea drinking (sipped from a wide, shallow bowl-shaped cup). I prefer sencha tea (only tried matcha for the first time over Christmas), which is officially more of a casual everyday thing (quaffed from a tall, narrow cup). So I’m actually mixing and matcha-ing my teas and vessels somewhat, but hey – no-one’s perfect!
Most people who know me well know I drink my brews by the pot. Five cups first thing in the morning (ideally before I speak to anyone, but realistically not possible with small children) and a fresh pot as I start work.
More throughout the day till I switch to my beloved snazzy tea to mix things up a bit. It’s what fuels my body – and my bladder(!) – and it’s the not-so-secret ingredient to my copywriting superpower. Without it my words don’t word.
I haven’t worked with a tea brand (yet), but as an avid consumer, I reckon I can see where the challenge lies in writing effective copy. Tea sits in that rare space where familiarity is part of the appeal – which means the copy has to work hard to stand out without shouting. The brands that stand out are the ones that understand the feeling they’re selling, not just the blend.
If you’re reading this and you’re on the lookout for a reliable copywriter to transform your tea brand’s web copy, blogs or emails, I’d love to hear more about your project.
Happy Brew Monday everyone. And seriously, if you're feeling more Blue Monday than Brew Monday, my DMs are open and I’m available for a little natter and a virtual brew if needed. You're not alone. If things feel bleak or overwhelming for you, I'm happy to chat about anything and everything.
P.S. My amazing husband makes my first pot of tea most mornings and I'm beyond thankful for lovely gestures like that. He really is fab.
P.P.S. I can’t be the only millennial who uses a teapot?! 🫖
